Bred by Axmar Stables in the USA, and imported then trained by Ronald Thompson to enter the English Derby ridden by Willie Carson Captain maverick ran a few times as a 3 /4 year old but was never fast enough due to a lacy streek, Captain maverick was then sold and stud at stud in Scotland with William prentice siring Showjumping stock and racehorses.
